PROCESSES: ACERLECT

Processing, properties and characteristics of steels for electrical use.

ACERLECT is a project financed by the FONCICYT which is a consortium foundation of the CONCACyT and the EU for the promotion of joint research projects. In this case, the project is about the processing, properties and characteristics of steels for electrical use. Apart from CTM in the project take part two Mexican universities, a Mexican company and three European universities. The scientific and technological objectives of ACERLECT are:

A. To establish a consortium between Mexican and European organisations interested in getting a deeper knowledge with regards the processing and improvement of steels used in the electrical sector.
B. To determine the effect of the several variables of the process which are involved in it from the fusion till the final product delivered by the steel manufacturer; by checking impurities, content of interstitial elements, effect of the heating sequence and hot reduction as well as the cooling process, waiting period in previous steps to pickling and the subsequent cold reduction and cold lamination sequences - including annealing stages.
C. To study the effect of magnetic properties and of the shape and geometry of lamination in electrical devices. It evaluates the functional dependence existing between microstructural characteristics.
D. To model, simulate and forecast the characteristics and properties of steel through its processing route.

Companies and centres which are collaborating on the project apart from CTM: Universidades Nacional Autónoma de México, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, CCPM, Universidad de Gante, Universidad de Freiberg and Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña.
