MATERIALS TECHNOLOGY: AMORAUTO

Increase of the added value of automotive components through the integration of the functionalities obtained by the interconnection of innovative processes.

Company or financing administration: Rectificadora del Vallés, Global Steel Wire, Tenneco Automotive

Description: AMORAUTO is a cooperation project financed by the CDTI. This project focuses on the decrease of rejections in the productive chain during the manufacturing process of car shock absorbers. Special emphasis has been put on the processes of continuous casting and GSW hot lamination carrying out a study on the fluid dynamic of the material melted in the trough, its process of solidification, the cleaning of the materials (inclusions), hot ductility and numerical simulation of creep behaviour, as well as the characterisation of the metallurgical and mechanical defects generated during the production or manipulation of the steel. The behaviour of the defects during the stretching process in Rectificadora del Vallés has also been studied through their simulation and characterisation before and after stretching obtaining as a result a significant reduction in the amount of material rejected by the company. The processes of nickel plating, chrome plating, heating and tempering that are carried out at Tenneco Automotive as well as the influences on these projects of the defects inherited upstream have been studied through characterisation. The result of the development of the project has been a better understanding of the whole value chain in the fabrication of sock absorbers and a significant reduction in the number of rejections.

Companies and centres which are collaborating on the project apart from CTM: Rectificadora del Vallés S.A, Tenneco Automotive, Global Steel Wire, ITMA, K&E Technologies
