New processes for forming and developing advanced materials for the transformation of high mechanical strength steels.
The research work of the project focuses on new materials and manufacturing processes that will make it possible to manufacture components with advanced high strength steels (AHSS), mainly for the car industry, promoting the development of lighter and safer vehicles. The project Forma0 is subsided by the CENIT programme of the Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (Centre for Industrial Technological Development) of the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (Ministry of Science and Innovation). 14 companies and 6 universities and research centres collaborate on the project. CTM takes part in all of the 11 activities and besides, it manages the project. The Area of Forming Processes of CTM participates in several activities for some of the partners. By way of illustration, in the activity of Forming of steels with high elastic limit through electromagnetic pulse (EMP), it collaborates on the selection of materials for designing coils. It also participates in the Research Activity about cold work steels, more specifically in the microstructural characterisation of this kind of steels by selecting the optimum polish, obtaining diffraction cards or generating databases for the indexation of the carbides that are present and their subsequent measurement through the EBSD technique. Likewise, it participates in the characterisation of the cylindrical lamination process and in its modification when it is heated by laser, in the determination of the forecast of the elastic recovery and in the characterisation of the hot deformation of tool steels.
