ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY: RECOSY (Redox Phenomena Controlling Systems)
Project presented at the call for proposals EURATOM (The Seventh Framework Programme of the European Atomic Energy Community). Its main objective is the improvement of the knowledge on redox processes that control the mobility of the radionuclides that come from the elimination of nuclear wastes so as to create the necessary tools for evaluating and guaranteeing safety in the final management of nuclear wastes. This project includes advanced analysis techniques; determination of the responsible processes that govern the redox potential of the systems taken into account not only by means of kinetic and thermodynamic studies but also of microbial processes among others; and also the answer to the disturbances in waste confinement systems. The issues tackled in this project are the development of advanced systems for the determination of the redox state; improvement of the databases for the interpretation of the microbial impact on the redox state of the system and the radionuclides; understanding the responsible processes of the measured redox potential of the corresponding systems, both on the near-field and on the far-field. The project Recosy has a duration of 4 years.
