El
CTM Centre Tecnològic pioneers the search for
high resistance steel
The CTM Centre Tecnològic in Manresa, the Centro
de Estudios e Investigaciones Técnicas de Guipúzcoa
(CEIT), the Instituto Tecnológico de Materiales
de Asturias (ITMA) and the Asociación de Investigación
Metalúrgica del Noroeste de Galicia (AIMEN),
have joined together to lead a pioneering research project
in Spain, working together in the framework of the Consorcia
project.
The
aim of this initiative is to study potential applications
of TRIP steel, which is highly resistant and of special
interest for the car manufacturing sector. Its greater
resistance permits the manufacture of parts which offer
the same or higher levels of safety, whilst using thinner
metal sheets. This permits a reduction of up to 30%
in the weight of some car structural components.
